Legal restrictions for fences depend on the location. There are places where zone ordinances are in place and permits are required to set up a fence. As a business who has been active in the industry for long, we comply with legal restrictions to ensure smooth operation. Typically, there are restrictions in terms of material, height, and design of the fence. In some areas, local restrictions are set by homeowners’ association. For areas which have dense population, a permit must be acquired prior to digging any holes. If you know of any ordinances in your area, it would help to inform us in advance.
You are not required to consult your neighbors prior to installing of the fence, but it would be better if you would. As common courtesy, your neighbors will surely appreciate to be informed of what you are up to especially that it may cause some minor inconvenience to them. If they get to know about it prior to starting, as neighbors, you can avoid any conflict that may arise. Also, if they have pets or other things going on in their household, they can make the necessary adjustments. In some cases, and if you’re lucky, some neighbors volunteer to contribute to the expenses.
The depth of the posts depends on the length of the fences. It is hard to identify the depth without the exact measurements of the fences. For average size fences, posts are normally 3-4 feet deep. For higher fences, it will require deeper posts for better stability. When digging for posts, provide allowance since fences need concrete for better support. Once your fence of choice has been finalized, our team can do the evaluation of how deep the posts need to be. We have very experienced manpower who are adept in the business and knows the nitty gritty of fence installation.
Fences are not supposed to touch the ground except that if the main purpose of the installation of fence is to keep rodents and insects away. For some, they want their fences to touch the ground to keep their pets inside the premises. Normally, only the fence posts should be in contact with the ground since having contact can easily damage the fences. Fences are prone to catch moisture if they are in near proximity to the ground. Moisture is bad for fences since it causes rust which can eventually damage it after some time and might require repair or replacement.
Yes, weather can affect the process of fence installation. Extreme weather conditions such as high humidity, heavy rain, too low temperature, or too high temperature can affect the work. These weather conditions may fail the setting of concrete. In some weather conditions, the fence materials can either swell or contract depending on the circumstances. During days when the weather is unpredictable, it is likely for us to suspend the installation. We don’t recommend risking the quality of the work through severe weather conditions. It is always best to do the installation on a warm day when there is no rain prediction.
The material largely depends on what type of fence you need. There are different materials for different kinds of fences. The most common materials used for fences include steel, aluminum, vinyl, and wood. Vinyl fences are typically produced in factories and are instantly ready to install. Fences made of vinyl are installed by fixing each board together. This material is among the most affordable yet provides complete privacy. Meanwhile, wood fences are from different types of lumber which comes in panels. Lastly, the most durable of the materials are the metal fences that has two variants which are steel and aluminum.
The height of the fence depends on the purpose it serves. For fences that are intended as ornament, these can be shorter. Also, a shorter fence will do if the purpose of the fence is to just keep small pets within the property. On the other hand, if the main function of the fence is for security, privacy, and safety, then fences are supposed to be taller. Tall fences are usually 7 to 10 feet in height to properly serve its purpose. Tennis courts, baseball fields, and basketball courts typically require tall fences to keep the audience safe from any ball accidents.
On average, fence lasts for around 10 years. The exact duration of how long will a specific last depends on a number of factors such as the type of material and the maintenance that it receives. Also, extreme weather conditions can affect the longevity of fences. For example, wooden fences need yearly maintenance to last longer. Also, lumber must be treated to protect it from mites that may feed on it and eventually damage the fence. On the other hand, metal and vinyl materials, can last up to 10 years or even longer. These materials are low maintenance and requires minimum care.
